Digital Currency

Digital Currency is the value of an exchange stored, transacted or fulfilled wholly by electronic means. This means that though a Digital Currency service may connect to a bank account (savings-based transaction) or credit card (debt-based transaction) to perform a transaction, it is not the credit card or bank account itself.

A Blockchain is a public ledger that records a set of data transactions, eliminating the need for a centralized third party or authority to store or process said transactions. In the case of BitCoin (which was the project that originated this algorithmic approach to transaction processing), the Blockchain is a full history of banking transactions. Blocks, or the most recent transactions being recorded, are like an individual banking statement. Each completed block is added to the chain, and another block begins, forming the constantly growing Blockchain.

BitCoin users dictate and verify transactions each time a person pays someone else for goods or services. The completed transaction is publicly recorded into the Blockchain, where it’s verified by other Bitcoin users. Blockchain is seen as BitCoin’s main technological innovation, since it provides proof of each transaction. It is used to review transaction histories to determine how much value a particular address owned at any given time. Each computer that’s connected to the BitCoin network receives a copy of the Blockchain upon joining the network.

Ethereum SmartContracts

Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract (scripting) functionality. It provides a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes. Ethereum also provides a value token called "ether", which can be transferred between participants and is used to compensate participant nodes for computations performed. Gas, an internal transaction pricing mechanism, is used to prevent spam on the network and allocate resources proportionally to the incentive offered by the request

OpenBazaar is essentially a re-branding of DarkMarket, which was confirmed to be a front to catch cyber-criminals, run by the FBI.[56][57][58]

Audius is a digital streaming service that connects fans directly with artists and exclusive new music. It does this by being fully decentralized: Audius is owned and run by a vibrant, open-source community of artists, fans, and developers from around the world. Audius gives artists the power to share "never-before-heard" music and monetize streams directly. Developers can build their own apps on top of Audius, giving them access to one of the most unique audio catalogs in existence.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are guaranteed unique identifiers that can be used to prove ownership of an "authentic" original digital asset (such as artwork, digital image, music track/album, video clip, TV show, movie, etc).

Cryptocurrencies & E-Payments

Cryptocurrencies are electronic and/or digitally held currencies that implement a blockchain or similar P2P verification/ledger scheme to accomplish decentralization of ownership of the money supply and system for transferring, storing & measuring wealth (although not all crytocurrencies are necessarily decentralized).

Electronic Payments (commonly abbreviated E-Payments) are simply transacting online or on a mobile device with existing major national & global currencies (such as the US Dollar, Canadian dollar, European Union euro, Japanese yen, Chinese renminbi, etc).

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer digital currency. Peer-to-peer (P2P) means that there is no central authority to issue new money or keep track of transactions. Instead, these tasks are managed collectively by the nodes of the network. It is referred to as the first mildly successful cryptocurrency.

OpenTransactions is a solid, easy-to-use, financial cryptography and digital cash library. The library includes an Open Source operational API, Client and Server for processing untraceable digital money transactions.

OS Currency

Alternatives to the BitCoin as a digital cryptocurrency are commonly abbreviated as AltCoins.

[161] [162]

Stablecoins aim to solve the volatility problem where prices change constantly and often drastically, by tying the cryptocurrency to some underlying assets (such as fiat money of a particular currency, gold, silver, energy holdings, real estate, etc). Whereas BitCoin has seen changes in price of more than 20% within a single trading day, the most successful "stablecoins" have less than 2.5% change in value per week (if not per quarter or fiscal year).

Adult AltCoins

Some AltCoins exist purely for paying for access to Adult materials (i.e. pornography & related games, virtual reality experiences, etc).
