Last.FM is one of the world's leading online music discovery services, and was purchased by CBS in 2007 for roughly $285 million US.

AudioScrobbler

As the CBS acquisition closed (or debatably, right before) in May 2007, Last.FM released the Beta version of its new AudioScrobbler.

The AudioScrobbler became the new extendable API, with new applications and mashups being made available in the Last.FM Playground. In addition, multiple clients for consuming the Last.FM services and/or updating music playback information are available at the AudioScrobbler download page. (at the time of writing there were clients available for iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android, Windows Mobile devices, Windows PCs and Macs).
