Last.FM is one of the world's leading online music discovery services, and was purchased by CBS in 2007[1] for roughly $285 million US[2].

API

AudioScrobbler

As the CBS acquisition closed (or debatably, right before) in May 2007, Last.FM released the Beta version of its new AudioScrobbler. [3]

The AudioScrobbler became the new extendable API, with new applications and mashups being made available in the Last.FM Playground[4]. In addition, multiple clients for consuming the Last.FM services and/or updating music playback information are available at the AudioScrobbler download page.[5] (at the time of writing there were clients available for iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android, Windows Mobile devices, Windows PCs and Macs).
