NetBeans is an open source IDE created by an open source group at Sun Microsystems. The IDE was originally focused on providing rich tools such as visual editing environments, feature extensions, building, testing, debugging and deployment of Java software projects from development to production, however, in recent years it began to bring more and more other popular languages and tools into the IDE, such as C/C++, PHP, Python, AJAX, Ruby and Scala. The NetBeans platform and its related tools such as Kenai, Developer Community forums and online resources were acquired by Oracle in the Sun acquisition.
