Smart Paper

Smart Paper (also commonly referred to as e-paper, digital paper and flexible display technology) is an innovative technology which enables a thin-client computing device to replicate paper (by having its internal memory and display technology able to fit on a surface so thin, it truly is comparable to a single sheet of paper). It was primarily intended to replicate and display newspaper and magazine content in an easy to use, flippable manner; while also displaying digital text which is searchable, can be copied and pasted, or perhaps even sent to a friend.

Another form of "smart" paper uses a special plasticized surface to coat each sheet of paper, and a magnetic "no-ink" printer to write over a single sheet of paper thousands of times. This represents recycling & reusing physical paper, not replacing it with a digital version (which requires electricity or battery power, thus increasing the world's energy requirements).
