A Game is a competition or other activity consisting of a challenge, learning objective or some other form of entertainment value to the player(s). The players are the individuals and/or organizations involved in playing the game (whether against or in cooperation with, one another).

Gamification is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts, in order to encourage users to solve problems or pursue (unlock) achievements, thereby increasing users' engagement with your platform.

Gambling is most simply defined as any game or event with a wager and/or possible reward involved, depending on the outcome (which itself may also involve odds-setting and/or spreads).

A wager or bet is any tangible denomination or item (such as money, property, assets, etc) offered up or risked as part of a game or event, or, could even be intangible items (such as tasks, favours, services to be rendered, etc).

An outcome is the end-result of the game or event after its completion (i.e. who won, who lost, where they placed/ranked, etc).

A spread is how much the winner won by or how they won; by that same token it could also represent how much the loser lost by, or how they lost (i.e. pts scored, ).

The likelihood that a specific outcome occurs is referred to as the odds.

In Gambling, the rewards or payout to the winner could be monetary (i.e. cash prize pay-out, recurring payments, cash-equivalent trade-in of prize package, etc), or even intangible (such as a promise of services to be rendered or tasks to be carried out by the losing party, offers for fast-tracking of promotion within a company, etc).

Sports are one of the most wagered upon events in the world, with global revenues (both reported/legal and unreported/illegal) in the billions.

Based on the high-level definition of Gambling above, An example of a Sports bet:

I bet you $10 that UCLA beats Notre-Dame by 10 pts in the finals. Hah yeah right, Notre-Dame is a 5 to 1 favourite, I accept your bet and I'll pay you $50 if you're right!

WAGER = $10, OUTCOME = UCLA beats Notre-Dame, SPREAD = 10pts, ODDS = 5:1, REWARD = $50

Atlantic Lottery Corporation

Serving the Atlantic Canada region (NB, NS, PEI, NL) the Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) has always strived to be a leader in innovation and technology. They were the first of the Canadian lotteries to have an iLottery presence (PlaySphere website in late 1990s) and the first to develop their own custom Mobile Gaming app (WasherToss), as well as the first to create an LBS-based game (GeoSweep). Although the "gambles" don't always pan out, they deliver a quality gambling (and increasingly "gaming") experience to players in the maritime provinces.
