Apple, inc is a computer hardware and software company based out of Los Gatos, California.

The company's major products are their MacBook and the iPhone, both of which run on a proprietary version of Mac OS X.

Other than these innovative hardware devices, the company has experienced a major boost and growth on the back of their iTunes media center suite.
Apple also has a number of other useful technologies to their name, including Quicktime, Quicktime Broadcaster, QuickTime Streaming Server and the Open Source version of the streaming server, the RTSP-based Darwin Streaming Server[1].
Apple also provides some productivity suites, apps and tools (some paid, some free/included) for their Mac and iOS Operating Systems, including:
- iLife (comprised of iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto)
- iBooks Author
- iAd Producer
- Front Row (Media Center, discontinued)[2][3][4][5]
Desktop Applications usually have the .app file extension on Mac, while installation suites typically have a .dmg file extension Mobile Applications installation files and the apps themselves both use the .ipa file extension on iOS.
