Interactive Voice Response systems (commonly abbreviated IVR, sometimes also referred to as Interactive Voice Recognition systems), are tools which enable a computer to recognize voice and/or keypad inputs in order to automatically direct or respond to a user's input requests with the appropriate/desired output.

In a way IVRs represent a form of limited AI, where virtual or interactive agents with limited knowledge of a user, make informed (and thus, arguably biased) decisions about what information or actions a user is requesting.
