Siri, Inc. was a Silicon Valley startup based in San Jose, California. Its foundational technology and IP was provided by SRI International, which led the $200M DARPA-funded CALO project. Series A funding was led by Menlo Ventures and Morgenthaler Ventures.

Siri represents a new interaction paradigm for the consumer internet experience.

Siri is born from the largest Artificial Intelligence project in U.S. history. Years in the making, Siri is being prepared for the Internet by a great team. Siri will be available in a public beta in the first half of 2009.[1]

It was acquired by Apple in 2010. Apple first introduced it via the iPhone 4GS and subsequent iOS update to version 5.0.

Siri is created by an all-star team of designers and engineers drawn from Google, Yahoo, Apple, Motorola, Netscape, RealTravel, SRI, NASA, and Xerox PARC.
